Antique Auction Deals

I have several antique furniture pieces that I bought at a wholesale antique furniture auction on New Year’s day a couple of years ago. Most of the people that were there buying furniture were retail shop owners with tax I.D’s. Because these shop owners are in the business of making a profit, I was able to get the furniture pieces I wanted by bidding just a little bit more than they would.

I still paid a lot less than retail for what these pieces would have cost. Also, I like buying antiques because they hold their value. In some instances, they can appreciate. If you do your research, paying a little more for antiques as home decor, over new trendy store bought furniture, can be a wise investment.   Jennifer Stancil – Kennesaw, GA

Home Décor in a Bag

You know how you can get really good deals on those “bed in a bag” sets sometimes? They usually contain the comforter, 2 shams, a flat and fitted sheet set, a dust ruffle and 2 pillowcases. I bought one recently and the sheets in these sets are not usually a really high thread count. Plus I don’t care if my sheets match the comforter and sham anyway because you are not going to see them when the bed is made up.

My nightstand is one of those 70 inch round tables. The inexpensive kind that you cover with a round tablecloth? Well, I took the sheets that came with my comforter set and cut out a round tablecloth and made valances for my 2 bedroom windows and they matched my new comforter set completely! So now my bedroom looks like it’s had professionally decorated home decor!   Becky Roberts – Chattanooga, TN

Coverlet Cover-Up for Home Decor

I inherited a coverlet from my mom a few years ago. It was for a double bed and fit on the top of a Queen sized bed with just a few inches short. Since it was lightweight and a double wedding ring pattern, I really wanted to use it. And yet, it just didn’t look right. I came up with the idea of adding to the coverlet.

Shopping at the mill outlet store near me, I found and bought enough 12-inch wide eyelet material to go around the edges. Then I gathered it and added to the sides and bottom of the coverlet. It turned out absolutely beautiful. I always think of my Mom when I use it.   Marie Davis – Pendleton, SC

Furniture and Rock Bottom Prices

I have purchased almost all of my furniture in Hickory N.C. (High Point, N.C. is another good place). These are furniture stores that are selling either samples used in photo shoots or factory damaged, high-end pieces.

I have saved thousands of dollars furnishing my den, bedroom, and dining room. The damaged pieces included problems like a leg of armoire not stained, an interior shelf missing, and some minor scratches and dents. I touched up the pieces and they all look great. Jennifer S. – Kennesaw, GA

Garage Sale Home Decor that Looks like Pottery Barn

We have now lived almost 10 years on one income and I have been blessed to be able to stay home with our three children. We have learned to see the big picture with our money, are debt free, except for the house, and can even afford family vacations and braces!

Watching our money has ignited the creative side in me. I want a beautiful Pottery Barn home, but have a WalMart budget! So, I went to the library and taught myself to sew, refinish furniture and do home improvements like painting and tiling. I call my new talent “Make-Do Decorating.”

No one who comes to our home knows that everything came from a garage sale, except me. I love seeing the look on their faces when they find out that the dining set they just complemented me on cost under 100 dollars, including the 6 French chairs!

This past week was so amazing I’m bubbling over and just had to pass on my amazing deals to you! It’s always so much more fun to share a deal!

Model Home Furniture Auction Deals

Brian and I literally bumped into a sign while driving home from errands on Saturday morning, “Model Home Furniture Auction.” Everything in this high-end model home was up for bid — from the framed artwork on the walls, to the furniture, rugs and even books on the shelves. We previewed for an hour and “test-drove” all that we were interested in — everything is sold “as is.” Then, after registering, and getting a bidder number we became part of a fast-paced, laughter filled auction in the living room of the home. What a blast!

Within an hour and a half everything was sold! We came home with a brand new overstuffed chair (valued at about $600) for $100, a framed print (the frame alone would have been over $300) for $60, a wrought iron arch for $30 and a Broyhill walnut six drawer low boy dresser and matching side tables for our bedroom for $450 total!

The solid wood furniture, with no scratches or wear, would have cost us a lot more new or even at consignment! Finally, we have a grown up bedroom set!  Brian and Alison — Castle Rock, Colorado
